Panel Session 2

The second panel session is underway, this time SME’s are John Lord, Paul Speight, Neil Gray and Stephen Milton discussing training. John Lord begins by talking about alternative means of training bearing in mind the contaminants risk that is well known now. Paul Speight continues, talking about the blended approach to training, using new technologies to compliment practical training, this again reduces that contaminant risk. Stephen Milton explains how the blended approach is a safe environment to allow people to fail which leads to greater understanding and confidence going forward, this is an element he uses extensively in his approach to training. Neil Gray says that from a regulatory perspective ‘training’ is not specific in the tools that are used for training so VR is an acceptable means to train people, he does however accept that training needs are a complex issue, to ensure realism and competence are achieved. Clean fuel (LPG) is discussed with Neil Gray voicing over the stark difference between LPG and Kerosene, however given the environmental impacts LPG was accepted many years ago as an acceptable fuel for training.
