W.H.O. classify Firefighting as a carcinogenic occupation

Chris Colgan speaks to the delegation on the contaminants issue within the firefighting community. Chris has many years experience within the fire service, with over 32 years in Kent Fire Service, retiring in 2021 as Assistant Chief, he now works as an independent consultant for Hunter Apparel, with a focus on PPE and contaminants. Chris gave details of a survey of 10,000 firefighters of which 4.1% have been diagnosed with cancer, compared to 1% of the population. He spoke around PPE and the important role it plays in keeping Firefighters safe, but that it needs to be looked after and cleaned correctly in order to protect firefighters health.
