‘Chemical incident’ in airport grounds closes road

Investigations into a “chemical incident” that led to the closure of a road in the south of the Isle of Man will continue over the weekend.
A spokesman for Isle of Man Airport said drainage works contractors working at the site had “disturbed buried items”, which required “further investigation”.
Derbyhaven Road, on the perimeter of the airfield, was closed, but flights were continuing to operate as normal, he said.
Work over the weekend would see “activity by the emergency services” in the area, but the public “should not be alarmed”, he added.
Fire crews from Douglas and Castletown attended the scene to “make the area safe”.
