Tommy Murney, updated the conference on the current state of the Hydrogen challenge programme being undertaken by the CAA. The programme is focused on Hydrogen as an aviation fuel and how that can be achieved effectively and safely. Tommy covered the specific properties of hydrogen, this is of real importance to RFFS crews who would have to deal with an incident involving hydrogen and must therefore understand the product and how it reacts and burns. He detailed its current use, predominantly in vehicles as well as airside power units and vehicles. He then spoke around the safety elements built into the delivery systems to shut down if something occurs.
